Random Acts of Kindness Day celebrated worldwide Feb 17

February 17, 2012

Random Acts of Kindness Day is the name of an unofficial holiday increasingly celebrated around the world on February 17 in order to encourage acts of kindness.

It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, just smile at some passers by, look people directly in the eye when talking to them, give people some extra time to listen to actually how they are, help a coworker, take a friend to lunch, pay for a stranger’s bus ride or toll……

These are just a few examples of simple little things to do today that could change someone’s life forever. And science has shown that it will change yours too!

Research shows that there are strong links between random acts of kindness and improvements in the health of people, so do not forget to do something kind today.

Post what random act of kindness you did today in the comments section! I want to hear from you!

Act 149

Tuesday, June 8, 2010, Act 149.

During my trip to Texas I was out walking late in the afternoon downtown and the temperature was still sweltering hot. There was a park bench outside under a tree in the shade. I was hot and sweating and needed to sit down for a while. Then I saw a lady and her two kids coming over in the same direction. I got up so she and her young children could sit down and cool off.

The Twelve Days of Kindness – Day 9, Act 135

Tuesday, December 22, Day 9, Act 135:

Today, I was able to spend all morning wrapping presents. I carefully wrapped each gift in different paper, selected the proper bow, and even a special tag to go on each present. It just feels really good to do something totally for someone else’s enjoyment. Just knowing the joy that someone else gets when opening that special package.

Act 55

Sunday, March 8, 2009.

Today was the big birthday dinner for my mom (and my dad). My wife had prepared a wonderful meal complete with salad and bread. My part in the festivities came when it was time to sit down and eat.

I set the table and from then on was the acting waiter for the rest of the afternoon. I didn’t want my wife, my father, or definitely not my mom to get up for anything. I got refills for everyone, 2nd helpings of food, more bread, or more napkins. Whatever was needed.

After dinner I gathered up all the plates and silverware and placed them in the dishwasher. Then I proceeded to prepare everyone’s dessert. I was very happy to have the opportunity to serve my family the very cake that I baked and decorated. And from the way that everyone finished it in such a hurry, it was pretty good too.

Later that evening after presents were opened and everyone was gone, I finished up washing the pots and pans used from cooking the birthday dinner. Once the dishes were dry, I put them away in the cabinets and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Happy Birthday Mom!!

Act 54

Saturday, March 7, 2009.

My mother’s birthday is coming up on Monday. My wife and I are going to do something special for her. We decided to habday-cake-w-candlesve a nice home-cooked meal for her and I wanted to especially bake her a cake. I used most of the day today cleaning the house from top to bottom and going to the store to purchase all the ingredients needed. After I had returned from the store, I put the groceries away, and began on my immediate project – baking my mom’s birthday cake. A few hours later, I had made a beautiful dark fudge chocolate cake and used creamy white vanilla icing to decorate it.
